This Vitamin has so many benefits and functions for our body. As we know that although this vitamin is beneficial for our body, consuming something that is too much for our body is not recommended. So, how much dosage of this beneficial vitamin that we need for every day? For baby, 35 mg of this vitamin is needed for every day. Meanwhile for adults, we need for about 60 up to 90 mg every day. For pregnant woman, it needs more vitamin C with the amount of extra 10 – 25 mg every day. Meanwhile, smokers need 110 – 125 mg every day. That amount will be bigger if someone is sick.
By knowing the amount of the C vitamin that we need every day, we can avoid to consume too much of this vitamin because it has various bad effects. Some of those side effects are diarrhea, headache, gastric pains, indigestion and kidney stones. This vitamin is a soluble in water, so the rest of it cannot be kept inside of our body. It will be dumped through the urine. Vitamin C is metabolized becomes the oxalic acid and if it is bounded with calcium, it can cause the kidney stones. Besides that, this vitamin is acid. It can increase the stomach acid so it can cause gastric pains, diarrhea and indigestion.
Consuming too much amount of vitamin C is not recommended because in absorbing this vitamin, we will need the help of transporter protein. The amount of transporter is limited. Without that protein, this vitamin is not being able to be absorbed and it will be thrown away. To avoid this process, it is better to consume little by little. Some natural resources of vitamin C are oranges, kiwi, melon, strawberry, pineapple, tomatoes and vegetables like spinach and broccoli. Those natural resources are better than the supplement.
